📜 Complete Scriptural Narrative
Arriving in the palace of Susa with certain men from Judah in the month of Chislev, Hanani refused to sugarcoat the condition of Jerusalem, reporting to his brother Nehemiah that the survivors were in great trouble and shame, with the wall broken down and the gates destroyed by fire (Nehemiah 1:2–3). After the wall was rebuilt, Nehemiah appointed faithful Hanani over the citadel and gates of Jerusalem (Nehemiah 7:2).
