Tamar
The first woman named in Matthew's Messianic genealogy — a wronged Canaanite widow whose bold pursuit of covenant justice preserved the royal line of Judah through her son Perez.
Denied her levirate marriage rights by her father-in-law Judah after the deaths of Er and Onan, Tamar risked her life to secure the promised heir, prompting Judah to confess, 'She is more righteous than I' (Genesis 38:26). Her twin son Perez became the ancestor of Boaz, David, and Jesus Christ (Ruth 4:12; Matthew 1:3).
