Cornelius the Centurion
God-fearing Roman centurion in Caesarea whose prayers and alms ascended before God — and upon whose Gentile household the Pentecost Holy Spirit fell while Peter was still preaching.
A devout Gentile officer of the Italian Cohort stationed at Caesarea who feared God with all his household, gave alms generously, and prayed continually (Acts 10:1–2), Cornelius was instructed by an angel to send to Joppa for Simon Peter. While Peter was still speaking the good news of Jesus Christ in Cornelius's living room, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word — astonishing the Jewish believers and proving that God shows no partiality in the Gentile harvest (Acts 10:34–48).
