Ezekiel the Prophet
Exiled priest-prophet in Babylon who was set down by the Spirit in a valley of sun-bleached skeletons and obeyed the command to prophesy to the dry bones and summon the four winds of breath until an exceedingly great army stood on its feet.
Carried into Babylonian captivity alongside King Jeconiah in 597 BC and called as a prophet by the Chebar canal (Ezekiel 1:1–3), Ezekiel ministered to a broken remnant who cried, 'Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are indeed cut off' (Ezekiel 37:11).
Set down by the hand of the LORD in the middle of a valley full of very dry human bones and asked, 'Son of man, can these bones live?', Ezekiel answered in humble trust, 'O Lord GOD, you know.' Commanded twice to speak — first prophesying God's Word over the bones until they rattled together with sinews, flesh, and skin, and second prophesying to the breath (Hebrew: Ruach) from the four winds — Ezekiel watched the graveyard rise on its feet as 'an exceedingly great army' (Ezekiel 37:1–10).
The Dry Bones — Ezekiel in the Valley of Skeletons, The Rattling of Bone to Bone & The Four Winds of the Spirit
Dropped into a valley of sun-bleached skeletons, Ezekiel prophesies God's Word and calls for the breath of God (Hebrew: Ruach) until a vast army stands alive.
