Judah
Fourth son of Jacob and Leah, ancestor of the royal tribe of David and Jesus, who confessed 'She is more righteous than I' regarding Tamar and offered himself as surety for Benjamin.
Named Judah ('Praise') by his mother Leah (Genesis 29:35), he humbled himself when confronted by Tamar (Genesis 38:26) and later offered his own life in exchange for his youngest brother Benjamin in Egypt (Genesis 44:33). Jacob blessed him as the lion's cub from whom the royal scepter would never depart (Genesis 49:8–10; Revelation 5:5).
