Mary, Mother of John Mark
Devoted widow in Jerusalem who opened her spacious home as the prayer headquarters of the early church when Peter was imprisoned by Herod.
When King Herod Agrippa I executed James with the sword and locked Simon Peter in prison, 'many were gathered together and were praying' inside the Jerusalem house of Mary, the mother of John whose other name was Mark — the very house to which Peter went straight after an angel struck off his chains (Acts 12:12–17).
