Mahlon
Son of Elimelech and Naomi and first husband of Ruth in Moab — whose name and inheritance Boaz raised up by redeeming Ruth at the Bethlehem gate.
Migrating from Bethlehem to Moab with his parents Elimelech and Naomi and brother Chilion, Mahlon married Ruth the Moabite and died in Moab after about ten years without leaving an heir. At the Bethlehem gate, Boaz redeemed Ruth specifically 'to perpetuate the name of the dead in his inheritance' (Ruth 1:2–5; Ruth 4:9–10).
