King Solomon
Son of David and Bathsheba, builder of the First Temple, and royal Bridegroom of the Song of Songs who pursues the sun-scorched Shulammite with intentional affirmation and covenant love.
Born to David and Bathsheba in Jerusalem and named Jedidiah ('Beloved of the LORD') through Nathan the prophet (2 Samuel 12:24–25), Solomon asked God for an understanding heart to govern His people and built the magnificent First Temple on Mount Moriah (1 Kings 3:9; 2 Chronicles 3:1).
In the Song of Songs, Solomon appears as the royal Bridegroom who looks past the Shulammite maiden's sun-darkened exterior, silences her insecurity with intentional praise ('You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you'), and brings her into his banqueting house under the banner of love — a poetic portrait of Christ's covenant desire for His Bride (Song of Solomon 1:5–6; Song of Solomon 2:4; Song of Solomon 4:7).
