Gehazi
Elisha's personal attendant who was positioned to inherit the prophetic mantle — until he chased after Naaman's chariot with a fabricated story, buried two talents of silver in his house, lied to Elisha's face, and walked out white with Naaman's leprosy.
As personal servant to Elisha, Gehazi stood closer to the double-portion anointing than anyone in Israel, witnessing the Shunammite's son raised and Naaman cleansed of leprosy (2 Kings 4; 2 Kings 5:14). Yet when Elisha refused Naaman's silver and gold so the Syrian commander would know God's grace is free, greed ignited in Gehazi's heart.
Chasing Naaman's chariot down the road, Gehazi used the LORD's name to invent a lie about two young prophets from the hill country of Ephraim, securing two talents (~150 pounds) of silver and two festal garments, which he hid inside his house (2 Kings 5:20–24). Standing before Elisha and lying smoothly — 'Your servant went nowhere' — Gehazi heard the devastating verdict: 'Did not my heart go when the man turned from his chariot to meet you?... Therefore the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and to your descendants forever.' He went out from Elisha's presence a leper, like snow (2 Kings 5:25–27).
