Elisha the Prophet
Elijah's double-portion successor who multiplied a bankrupt widow's oil behind closed doors, cleansed Naaman in the Jordan while discerning Gehazi's hidden silver, and saw the mountain of Dothan ablaze with horses and chariots of fire.
Called while plowing with twelve yoke of oxen at Abel-meholah, Elisha burned his plows to follow Elijah and inherited a double portion of his master's prophetic spirit (1 Kings 19:19–21; 2 Kings 2:9–14). When a bankrupt widow of the sons of the prophets cried out that a creditor was coming to enslave her two sons, Elisha instructed her to borrow every empty jar from her neighbors and pour from her single flask behind a shut door until every vessel overflowed with ransom oil (2 Kings 4:1–7).
When the leprous Syrian commander Naaman arrived at his door with silver, gold, and festal garments, Elisha sent a messenger ordering him to dip seven times in the muddy Jordan and refused every coin so Naaman would know grace cannot be bought — instantly discerning in the spirit when his apprentice Gehazi ran after the silver in secret (2 Kings 5:1–27). Later encircled at dawn in Dothan by the Syrian army's iron chariots, Elisha stood in unshakable peace and prayed, 'O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see,' revealing the mountain full of horses and chariots of fire around them (2 Kings 6:15–17).
