The High Priest of Israel
The consecrated Sanctuary mediator in Leviticus 23 who waved the single sheaf of Firstfruits barley on the morning after the Sabbath and, fifty days later at Pentecost, lifted the two leavened loaves before the LORD.
In the prophetic festival calendar of Leviticus 23, the priest at the sanctuary performed two connected wave offerings (Hebrew: tenufah) that mapped out the entire New Testament redemption story.
First, 'on the day after the Sabbath' during Passover week, the priest took the very first sheaf of the barley harvest and waved it before the LORD so the whole nation's harvest would be accepted — fulfilled the exact morning Jesus rose from the dead as 'the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep' (Leviticus 23:10–11; 1 Corinthians 15:20). Second, after counting seven full weeks (49 days) to the fiftieth day (Pentecost / Shavuot), the priest waved two loaves of fine wheat flour baked WITH leaven before the LORD — foreshadowing our Great High Priest presenting Jew and Gentile believers, still carrying human imperfection yet consecrated by blood and fire, as one Church (Leviticus 23:15–20; Acts 2:1–4).
