The Woman Clothed with the Sun
The radiant cosmic sign in Revelation 12:1 — clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars — representing God's covenant people who brought forth the Messianic Child and are borne on two wings of the great eagle into safety.
Appearing as 'a great sign in heaven' in Revelation 12:1 (echoing Joseph's dream of sun, moon, and twelve stars in Genesis 37:9), the Woman Clothed with the Sun cries out in birth pains and gives birth to the male Child 'who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron' (Psalm 2:9; Revelation 12:5). When the Great Red Dragon is cast down and pursues the woman, she is given the two wings of the great eagle (echoing Exodus 19:4) to fly to her prepared place in the wilderness where God nourishes her for 1,260 days, while the earth itself opens its mouth to swallow the river the dragon pours from his mouth (Revelation 12:6, 13–16).

The child of the sun-clothed woman is caught up to God's throne while Michael evicts the Great Red Dragon and the saints conquer by the Lamb's blood.
