The First Witness (Fire Prophet)
The first of God's Two Witnesses in Revelation 11 — clothed in sackcloth to prophesy for 1,260 days with Elijah's authority to shut the sky from rain and pour fire from his mouth upon every attacker until his testimony is finished.
Commissioned by God in Revelation 11:3–6 — 'And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth' — the First Witness stands with his partner as 'the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth' (echoing Zechariah 4:14).
Walking in the prophetic mantle of Elijah, he possesses power to shut the sky so that no rain falls during the days of their prophesying, and if anyone would harm them, fire pours from their mouth and consumes their foes. For 1,260 days he is completely invincible until their testimony is finished; and after three and a half days of global gloating over their bodies in the street, the breath of life from God enters them, they stand on their feet, and they ascend to heaven in a cloud at the voice, 'Come up here!' (Revelation 11:5–12).
