Goliath of Gath
The nine-foot-nine Philistine champion encased in 125 pounds of bronze scale armor who defied the armies of the living God morning and evening for forty days — and fell face down before a single smooth stone from David's sling.
Stepping out from the Philistine camp between Socoh and Azekah in the Valley of Elah, Goliath of Gath stood six cubits and a span tall (~9 feet 9 inches), wearing a bronze helmet, a coat of bronze scale armor weighing five thousand shekels (~125 pounds), bronze greaves on his legs, and an iron spearhead weighing six hundred shekels (~15 pounds) with a shield-bearer marching ahead of him (1 Samuel 17:4–7).
For forty days, morning and evening, he paralyzed King Saul and all Israel with his taunt, 'Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me' (1 Samuel 17:8–16). Expecting a conventional duel of flesh and bronze, he cursed young David by his gods — only to be struck in the forehead by a single smooth stone slung in the name of the LORD of hosts and decapitated with his own sword (1 Samuel 17:43–51).
